Bus Diaries

Bus Diaries

Very few people in Mumbai get a convenient transport system (where you can sleep to and fro). I am one of them, who has a liberty, availability to travel that way. I crave for empty seats with 24/7 sleepy eyes, so I travel in the bus.

When I am not sleepy or if I am watching some bullshit on YouTube, I tend to observe (buffering dude...) my dear bus-mates as well. You can’t really call them mates, as I don't see them daily. But yes these people are funny, witty and sometimes irritating as well.

I am sleeping as usual. I rapped myself in my scarf, like a terrorist and trying to sleep. Suddenly, I get humming from somewhere, I saw around and slept again. Barely after 2 minutes, similar sound. This time I removed my scarf and saw everywhere only to realize that one gentleman was right beside me (sitting on a ladies seat) and reciting a shloka. I realized, because of my scarf I could not see that he was the one who had a book in his hands and that murmur was actually something very serious.

Now, as people are very sensitive when it comes to religion, I dint utter a word and plugged-in my head-phones.

There is one thing which is very annoying with the BEST system in Mumbai is they are never on time, you can’t guess the time, no mode to make cancellation announcements and yes it’s expensive.

So as you can’t afford to miss a bus especially when you know the timings, I started rushing. All thanks to the traditional day in my office, I took pretty much efforts to wear a saree. I got a drop till my office thanks to my generous friend but I dint know, while coming I will have to walk like a camel in my towering heels (who invented them?). I was walking towards my regular bus stop and to my horror, I saw my favorite bus was leaving from the stop on time. I shouted in the middle of the road, like a fool. As if the driver would hear me and stop the bus in middle of the traffic. But, to my sweet surprise, 3 kids going towards the same direction started running towards the bus and shouted on top of their voice (Bus roko, Bus roko). Bus was stopped, I got in like a VIP or somebody misunderstood me as preggy lady… lol. I could not thank those kids as I couldn’t see them. From that day, I have understood that I in a saree or I in a bus, only one thing is possible at a time.
